The analytical problem

Chemical analysis allows one to obtain the basic information for solving - partially or totally - a variety of social problems and needs, However, this information will be useful only if it is representative of the system or population under study, The appropriate definition of the analytical problem, which depends on the interaction between the analytical chemist and the client, is a key factor to achieve such representativeness. This article deals with the main aspects and elements involved in the characterisation of the analytical problem, the steps to be considered and the relationship between the definition of the analytical problem and the quality of the results delivered, (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
