A new brachypterous leafhopper genus and species of Deltocephalinae, Protochiasmus mysticus gen. n., sp. n. from Brazil, are described. The genus is not easily placed to tribe partly due to the lack of known females which may provide characters that are diagnostic to the tribal level and also due to the unique combination of morphological characters in the male. Based on these morphological characters and on recent molecular and morphological phylogenetic analyses of Deltocephalinae, Protochiasmus is tentatively placed in Chiasmini.
