Urban morphology of Tamansari Yogyakarta

Urban morphology analyzes the long-term changes of urban systems and identifies urban space character and identity, based on the urban intrinsic logic (non-physical elements) and the urban extrinsic logic (physical elements). The Tamansari area is rich in historical aspects with a cultural basis, environmental uniqueness, and the prospect of urban tourism. The impact of morphological changes due to organic settlements development in creating an irregular circulation pattern and activity support to the image and value of tourism is the focus of this research. The morphological study of urban space and urban form methods is carried out by means of the following steps: evidence, identification/ organization, evaluation, and narration, to find the morphological transformation patterns and regional themes. The transformation elements of the Tamansari landscape are addition, customize and transform, also largescale composite form type of urban square form with the irregular street pattern and compounded organic settlements type.
