摘要：

Sacred and profane names are typical for commercial names, placed on city signs which demonstrate Russian and foreign names, legal and vulgar names, religious and nonreligious names, natural and artificial words, usual and nonce words in the names of cafes, restaurants, shops, residential complexes, travel agencies, beauty salons and other urban facilities. The paper reveals the capabilities of naming examination (a new kind of forensic linguistic examination arising at the intersection of linguistics, law, onomastics and forensic expertology) in identifying the sacred and the profane in Russian urban commercial names and in showing their advantages and disadvantages.
