Paul Ricoeur's Spiral of Mimesis accounts for how the viewers complete television texts by asking, "Does this narrated world share a horizon with my world?" Only when the answer is "yes" does the text seem authentic. Creators of television content who configure narrative from the meaning they have taken from their ordinary existence may produce authentic texts.
