The family of transcriptional inhibitors, I kappa BLs, are critical to the regulation of cytokine and chemokine production. We have identified the complete cDNA sequence of the mouse I kappa bL gene. The predicted 381-amino-acid sequence showed evidence of two ankyrin repeats characteristic of I kappa b family proteins and 92% identity to the I kappa BL human homolog. Although human I kappa BL has been reported to be ubiquitously expressed, here we show that mouse I kappa BL is transcribed in a more tissue-specific manner. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
