Vegetation development and correlation of Holocene events in the Amur River basin, NE Eurasia

摘要
The studies of peat, lacustrine, and flood-plain deposits in the Amur River basin revealed the synchronous manifestation of paleoclimatic events in the terminal Late Pleistocene and Holocene. Three considerable coolings that occurred in the terminal Late Pleistocene (Younger Dryas), terminal Boreal and initial Subboreal periods of the Holocene, and three significant warmings, namely, in the mid-Boreal, terminal Atlantic (Holocene optimum), and second half of the Subboreal periods, were reconstructed. The response of natural environment to humidity oscillations varied markedly in different areas of the Amur basin, being stronger in the intracontinental parts than in the coastal realm. This difference mainly resulted from location and absolute height of the areas. The reconstructed terminal Late Pleistocene and Holocene climatic events in the Amur River basin are well correlated with the corresponding events in western Transbaikalia associated with the lake Baikal basin, and in northeastern Mongolia.
