This article deals with the fortunes of the Italian bibliography of music compiled at the National Central Library of Florence, from its origins in 1911 to the present day. It's a history of ups and downs always dominated by a lack of funds and the shortage of staff, with the prevalent conviction that in the case of a general library music bibliography is a luxury, not a necessity.
