Mass spectral studies of thermal decomposition of Ce(NH4)2(NO3)5•4H2O

摘要
Decomposition of Ce(NH4)(2)(NO3)(5)(.)4H(2)O was investigated by means of TG, DTA and EGA methods. In the fast step dehydration occurs with decomposition leading to formation of crystalline Ce-2(NH4)(3)(NO3)(9) and amorphous NH4NO3. NH4NO3 decomposes first with maximum rate at 210 degreesC. Ce-2(NH4)(3)(NO3)(9) begins to decompose at about 220 degreesC. Decomposition is a very fast process and gives O, H2O, NO, O-2, N2O as gaseous products. The solid product of decomposition is CeO2 with great amount of oxygen absorbed inside its structure.
