Tropical Australian freshwater fungi .12. Rivulicola incrustata gen. et sp. nov and notes on Ceratosphaeria lampadophora

Submerged wood collected in north Queensland yielded a new ascomycete with ascal characteristics similar to those found in species of Ceratosphaeria. We compared our taxon with the type species C. lampadophora and found them to differ. Rivulicola incrustata gen. et sp. nov. is therefore described to accommodate this species. Ascomata of R. incrustata are immersed and hyaline, with their axis horizontal to the host surface. Necks are green and immersed, and the peridium is composed of large, thin-walled, elongated cells. Asci are cylindrical with a non-amyloid, weakly refractive annulus, and ascospores are uniseriate in the ascus, hyaline, multiseptate and surrounded by a granular mucilaginous sheath. Ceratosphaeria lampadophora is also illustrated to highlight the differences between these genera.
