Ultrasonic studies in mixtures of benzonitrile with some alkanols and toluene

Densities (rho) and ultrasonic velocities (U) have been measured at 303.15, 308.15, and 313.15 K for binary mixtures of benzonitrile (BN) with butan-l-ol, pentan-l-ol, 2-methylpropan-2-ol and toluene. From these, isentropic compressibilities (K-S), intermolecular free lengths (L-r), deviations in isentropic compressibilities (DeltaK(S)), and excess intermolecular free lengths (LIT) have been computed and interpreted in terms of intermolecular interactions. Ultrasonic velocities evaluated using Nomoto, Van Dael equations, Jacobson's free length and Schaff's collision theories have been compared with experimental values.
