Anion-exchange extraction of benzoic acid derivatives with toluene solutions of trinonyloctadecylammonium salts

Concentration constants of exchange of 15 benzoic acid derivatives for chloride anion are determined by intermediate exchange using anions of acid dyes (picric acid and 2,4-dinitrophenol). The charge distributions on atoms of extracted anions are calculated by the AM1 method. A correlation is discussed between the extractability of anions and their structure and charge distribution on atoms. The extractability of substituted benzoate anions sharply increases on introduction of ortho substituents.
