According to Foucault, the author works towards the scarcity of discourses because he prevents the book to live its own life. But, writing retrospectively about his own opus, he started, after the publication of Surveiller et punir (1975) to act as an author. Why, then, did his apology of textual dispersion become a kind of mastery dedicated to unify his discursive output? To answer this question, one has to interrogate basic Foucauldian notions like "subject", "truth" and "power", and above all relations between them.
