Systematic study of angular hysteresis of critical current density in Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3Ox tapes

The angular dependence of the critical current density for Bi-2223 tapes was experimentally evaluated. Observed asymmetric behavior of J(c) with respect to applied field direction was investigated and the influences of the magnetic field and the temperature on the hysteresis amplitude were analyzed. The results unveil vanishing of hysteresis with increase of the magnetic field as well as with the temperature. The data of the angular hysteresis were re-plotted with the normal component B-n = Bsin theta and compared with hysteresis for one orientation of applied magnetic field (B (perpendicular to) tape plane). Evident correlation between the two confirms that J(c) is governed by the perpendicular component of applied field. It also suggests similar origin of the hysteresis, which is trapping flux inside the grains. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
