Critical points for electron-Mg atom elastic scattering

摘要
The partial wave method, along with a central potential which includes the effects of static field, exchange, polarization, absorption and spin-orbit interaction, is employed to search the critical points for the elastic scattering of electrons from Mg atoms. A novel iterative procedure is developed to calculate the critical points. A pilot application is made for Mg atoms. The present investigation shows the existence of two critical point pairs (E-c1 = 15.4484 eV,theta(c1) = 56.930 degrees) and (E-c2 = 75.6175 eV,theta(c2) = 104.261 degrees) for the Mg atom. At critical energy E-c2 and scattering angles 104.175 degrees and 104.325 degrees, 99% spin polarization of scattered electrons is obtained. To the best of our knowledge, no theoretical or experimental determination of critical points for the Mg (Z = 12) atom have yet been published.
