Micromaser and laser with competitive one- and two-photon processes

摘要
We derive the master equation for the field in micromaser and laser operating on three-level atoms undergoing competitive one- and two-photon processes in a single-mode field. An exact solution of the steady-state photon number distribution is obtained and used for studying the mean photon number and the photon number fluctuation of the cavity held with respect to the relative strengths of one- and two-photon coupling parameters. The presence of two-photon coupling to the usual micromaser and laser leads to interesting features such as suppression of emission and lasing without population inversion.
