Kinetics of Oxidation of a Synthetic Jet Fuel in a Jet-Stirred Reactor: Experimental and Modeling Study

The kinetics of oxidation of a 100% synthetic jet fuel (ca. 79.9% iso-alkanes, 19.6% n-alkanes, and 0.5% aromatics in mass) and a 50:50 mixture with a commercial Jet A-1 were performed using a fused-silica jet-stirred reactor under the same initial experimental conditions (temperature, 560-1030 K; pressure, 10 atm; equivalence ratio, 0.5-2; initial fuel concentration, 1000 ppm). Concentration profiles of reactants, stable intermediates, and products are measured versus temperature. The fully synthetic kerosene was more reactive. A chemical kinetic model consisting of 6228 reactions involving 2006 species was proposed. It is based on previous chemical mechanisms for the oxidation of n-decane, gasoline, and kerosene in similar conditions. The kinetic modeling showed reasonable agreement between the present data and computations over the entire range of conditions considered in this study.
