The Water Protection Approach (WPA) by USEPA is outlined. The historical development of the approach is of an old date, starting since 1980. Definition of the approach and experience to date is summarized. It is not a new programm, but a new way of thinking about how environmental programs have to be managed. Copyright (C) 1996 IAWQ.
