Substitution of Sm3+ and Nd3+ for Bi3+ in SrBi8Ti7O27 mixed aurivillius phase

Sm3+ and Nd3+ substitution for Bi3+ in SrBi8Ti7O27 with mixed layer structure was investigated. The solid solution limit of Sr(Bi1-xSmx)(8)Ti7O27 was between x = 0.15 and x = 0.25 while that of Sr(Bi1-xNdx)(8)Ti7O27 was between x = 0.05 and x = 0.15. The temperature stable dielectric ceramics with high dielectric constants (> 100) were obtained by Sm3+ and Nd3+ substitution for Bi3+ in SrBi8Ti7O27, where the dielectric loss varied from 0.002 to 0.02 at 1 MHz.
