Synthesis, antibacterial and herbicidal activities of some new 3-[4′-(4"-nitrophenoxy)-phenyl]-5-substituted phenyl-2pyrazolines and 2-isoxazolines

1-(4'-(4"-Nitrophenoxyaryl))-3-substitutedphenyl-2-propen-1 -ones (1) on treatment with hydrazine hydrate in presence of acetic acid resulted in the formation of 3-[4'-(4"-nitrophenoxy)-phenyl]-5-substituted phenyl-2-pyrazolines (2) while treatment of (1) with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in presence of pyridine gave 3-[4'-(4"-nitrophenoxy) phenyl]5-substituted phenyl-2-isoxazolines (3). The structures of new compounds were established on the basis of elemental and IR, PMR and Mass spectral data. The compounds were evaluated for their antibacteial and herbicidal activities.
