Insulation coatings and stress corrosion of steel gas pipelines - Part I

This article focuses on some aspects related to gas pipeline SCC (excluding research) and stresses out the role of insulating coatings in the development and prevention of this type of corrosion. Insulating coatings, together with steel surfaces, play an important role both in enabling course initiation (when they are not adequate) and in SCC prevention (when they are adequate) when stress corrosion is higher than 60% of minimum yield strength (SMYS). In this work, terms like stress corrosion and stress corrosion cracking are used interchangeably.
