Magnetic behavior of CePdAl under high pressures and high magnetic fields

摘要
The magnetization of CePdAl was measured at low temperatures on a single crystal in steady fields up to 10 T and on powdered sample in pulsed fields up to 43 T. Three magnetization steps were found which may be caused by geometrical frustration effects. No transition was observed above 7 T. The magnetization amounts to 1.05 mu(B)/Ce at 43 T. According to the susceptibility measurement under high pressure, the susceptibility and the Neel temperature (T-N) decrease by pressure, and the antiferromagnetic order disappears above 1.1 GPa. It suggests the quantum phase transition occurs at 1.1 GPa. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
