Spiritual well-being related to quality of life in people with type 2 Diabetes

Introduction: The number of people with diabetes increases day by day, the intervention of the health team is required. Objective: Analyze the relationship of spiritual well-being (BE) and quality of life (QoL) of people with type 2 diabetes. Method: Descriptive and cross-sectional study; non-probabilistic sample of 150 users of a health center. Diabetes and Spiritual Well-being Scale 39. Results: Most women (71%), mean time of diagnosis of the disease, 11 years (SD = 8.23), 95% used oral hypoglycemic and 54% with a diagnosis of arterial hypertension. High BE (89.3%) in total scale and in religious and existential dimensions (92.7% - 63.3%), with statistically significant differences by gender in total BE scale (U=1807.5; p=.028) and dimension of religious BE (U=1743.5; p =.003). In quality of life, the most affected dimension was energy / mobility ((x) over bar =41.98, Mdn=41, SD=4.91). Conclusion: A relationship was found between religious BE and dimension of QoL control of diabetes (r(s) =.165; p<.05) and between existential BE and dimension of sexual functioning Qo (r(s) =.168; p <.05).
