摘要
Distribution Static Compensators (dSTATCOMs) can improve distribution network performance using reactive power injection. They can manage voltages and reduce network losses by power factor correction. The placement of dSTATCOMs in a large network requires some engineering design effort. A skilled network designer can be assisted by automated dSTATCOM placement tools. This paper presents methods to optimally place dSTATCOMs in distribution networks. The distribution networks are modelled in Open Distribution System Simulator (OpenDSS). The optimization algorithm runs in MATLAB (R) environment which calls upon the OpenDSS model to run load flow solutions. The optimization is tested using an Australian low voltage (LV) network located in Newmarket, Brisbane. The testing process examined the placement response to normal loading conditions and to the placement of large spot loads. The paper shows that the optimization method produces credible solutions which improve the network performance in ways that align with engineering expectations.
