Psychosomatic Rehabilitation

Psychosomatic rehabilitation is a specific type of medical rehabilitation in which psychotherapeutic interventions play a central role. This paper gives an overview of the different therapies and their effectiveness in psychosomatic rehabilitation. Furthermore, it describes predictors of effective rehabilitation, such as therapy motivation, illness concept, period of disability, and personal problems of the patient. The whole sequence of a rehabilitation program (pre treatment, intervention, post treatment) for especially burdened patients is described. In the end, an algorithm for the diagnostic process and therapy of psychosomatic disorders is delineated.
