The effect of Gd addition on the cyclic oxidation behavior and creep life of alumina-forming Ni-based superalloy

摘要
The oxidation resistance and creep property of alumina-forming Ni-based superalloys with varying amounts of Gd are studied at 1100 degrees C in ambient air. Regardless of the Gd content, from the outermost surface inwards, a typical oxide scale consists primarily of NiO, spinel, spinel with oxide particles containing refractory elements, and Al2O3. However, spallation and abnormal growth of the scale are observed in alloys without Gd, and Gd addition significantly improves oxidation resistance. The creep rupture life is almost identical for the alloys with 0.04 wt.% Gd and those without Gd. The addition of Gd improves alloy oxidation resistance without compromising creep property.
