Towards statistical-mechanical understanding of supercooled liquids and glass transitions

摘要
After introducing author's encounter with the Choh-Uhlenbeck theory and gas kinetic theory, and early days of mode coupling theory(MCT), the more recent application of MCT to supercooled liquids and glass transitions is described including attempts to go beyond the current theory such as dynamical density functional theory(DDFT). A microscopic derivation of DDFT equation is also given for the case of atomic liquids for the first time. Such equations are also derived for the Smoluchowski equation of colloidal suspensions without and with hydrodynamic interactions. The DDFT equation takes a different form for the latter case.
