The paper describes the fractional composition and optical properties of humus of soils developed on post-mining areas reclaimed for forest use. The examined humus samples were characterised by high degree of humification, significant content of carbon bound in humin and fulvic acid structures and high optical density of humin acids. Significant correlation was found between humus qualitative properties and the fine fraction content (silt and clay) and absorbing complex properties of the soil. However, the humus properties were varied significantly and the features useful for the natural soil humus classification did not allow for clear classification of post-mining soil humus.
