摘要
Fenofibrate is a poorly water soluble lipid-regulating drug used to control triglyceride and cholesterol levels in blood plasma. However, due to its poor aqueous solubility, it has poor therapeutic effectiveness. Recently, several approaches based on nanotechnology have been developed to enhance the water solubility, dissolution, bioavailability, and control release of Fenofibrate. However, very few of these innovative formulations have reached the stage of clinical trials and only few have commercialized. Here, we systematically review the techniques such as milling, antisolvent precipitation, sonication, supercritical fluid techniques, electrospray, self-emulsifying drug delivery, lipid-based nanoparticle, and silica nanostructure-based formulation used to enhance bioavailability of Fenofibrate. We have reviewed the progress in Fenofibrate nanoformulations, commercial products, and future challenges for further investigation.
