Some typical and unusual events of solar-terrestrial physics in January-June 1999

We have singled out the fifteen most significant events in January-June 1999, identified their solar sources, and classified them. Active filaments were involved in all events, and low-latitude coronal holes were involved in most of them. We consider the structure and dynamics of hole-filament-streamer interplanetary magnetoplasma flows at 1 AU and their relationship to the configuration and dynamics of the solar sources. The flows are sequences of quasi-stationary, nonstationary, and posteruptive stages of the solar-wind stream. The nonstationary stage has been first shown to be attributable to the combined effect of sudden filament activation (ejection) and a change in coronal-hole configuration. The fast stream from a coronal hole was found to be "loaded" with slow dense filament plasma; we interpret the almost complete "disappearance" of the solar wind both in terms of rapid plasma ejection outside the heliosphere and in terms of the disappearance of the slow- and fast-solar-wind sources.
