Specific features of the growth of the type strain of Sulfobacillus thermosulfidooxidans in medium 9K

摘要
During development of the strain Sulfobacillus thermosulfidooxidans VKM B-1269 in the 9K medium, a key role was shown to belong to the threshold Fe3+ concentration, over which there was a drastic decrease in the cell division rate and cell lysis occurred. The main kinetic characteristics of this strain during the growth in this medium were determined. In particular, the minimum generation times were 1.4 and 0.83 h in batch and continuous cultures, respectively. These data are important for evaluation of the possibility to use bacterial species of the genus Sulfobacillus in biometallurgical processes of Fe2+ oxidation and metal leaching.
