The Importance of Laparoscopy in the Etiological Diagnosis of the Chronic Pelvic Pain

In the past, open surgery was the only method to explore the peritoneal cavity when all the other methods of diagnosis were insufficient. Once the laparoscopy appeared, the surgeons began to make use of its advantages and consequently the classic incisions were replaced by small incisions, thus for the patients' general benefit. [1] Nowadays, the laparoscopy is an endoscopic method frequently used both for diagnosis and therapeutic purposes. The patients that present themselves many times with chronic pelvic pain and that are examined by non-invasive procedure, without reaching a clear diagnosis, can benefit of laparoscopy, which, despite being an invasive diagnosis method, is superior to the other methods. [2], [3] In this study, we have assessed the benefits of laparoscopy as diagnosis method applied to the patients hospitalized in the last 3 years that presented chronic pelvic pains, whose diagnosis was not clearly concluded.
