Self-starting of a self-mode-locked Ti:Sapphire laser operated in a high order transverse mode

摘要
By scanning the transverse modes of a dispersion-compensated Ti:sapphire laser cavity, we have observed self-starting of self-mode-locking from the laser operated in a high order transverse mode. Self-starting of this laser was demonstrated at various wavelengths and cavity lengths. Stable pulses shorter than 100 fs in duration were obtained st a wavelength near 778 nm. Pulse evolution dynamics was investigated by introducing a chopper to the laser cavity. A long time constant (similar to 300 ms) was observed before the laser beam becoming fully modulated.
