Using FICBA(Fiber Compression Bending Apparatus),it is possible to measure the single fiber flexural property without the interference between fibers. In the experiment, the bending properties of the four fibers, namely Lyocell, ramie, wool and acrylon, which are thought to cause prickle problem usually, were evaluated under single-fiber axial compress bending test. We quantified the bending properties of single fiber with the calculation of the equivalent bending modulus (E-B) and flexural rigidity (R-B=EBI by measuring protruding length, fiber diameter and the critical force (P-er) in force (F) -displacement (D) curves. By comparison, it is found from the F-D curves that the axial compressing behaviours of these fibers above mentioned have the similar shape of F-D curves. However, there is existent obvious difference on the equivalent bending modulus between fibers like wool and cellulose fibers or regenerative cellulose fibers. By the analysis of results, the fibers like Lyocell and ramie, which have big equivalent bending modulus, are easier to cause prickle problem. The slick interface between fibers plays an important role in evaluation of the fabric's stiffness.
