摘要
The basic aim of this paper is to analyze switching impulse magnitudes and their statistical variations, and to predict the risk of failure of the insulation. The effect of random pole closure of circuit breakers on the statistical features of line-to-neutral overvoltages are discussed in this paper. The features are derived for a model of a 500 kV transmission line. Risk of insulation failure is calculated for both simultaneous switching and controlled switching modes of circuit breaker closures. The calculated risk of failure can be reliable only if the randomness of the waveshape of switching overvoltages is considered.
