Tunable Yellowish-Green to Green (Ca1-xSrx)LaGa3S6O:Eu2+ Phosphors for Potential LED Application

A series of Ca1-xSrxLaGa3S6O:0.05Eu(2+) (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1) phosphors were synthesized via a high-temperature solid-state reaction. These phosphors show broad excitation bands at 350-500 nm that match the available near-UV or blue-emitting GaN-based LED chip. The emission peaks of Ca1-xSrxLaGa3S6O:0.05Eu(2+) exhibit an obvious blue-shift in the range of 560-540 nm as the Sr content (x) increases. A tunable yellowish-green to green light can be controlled by simply adjusting the Sr content (x) in Ca1-xSrxLaGa3S6O:0.05Eu(2+). These characteristics indicate that the Ca1-xSrxLaGa3S6O:0.05Eu(2+) solid solution phosphors are good phosphor candidates for white LEDs. (C) 2011 The Electrochemical Society.
