Current trends in electron kinetics of gas discharges

摘要
This paper discusses some trends outlined in my talk at the XII ESCAMPIG. Among them are: (a) the generalization of the concept of diffusion along the energy axis, (b) the reasons for the Maxwellian-like electron distribution in low-pressure discharges (the Langmuir paradox), (c) the strong electron distribution function anisotropy caused by the wall escape of fast electrons in low-pressure discharges, (d) the formation of a cold electron population in various discharges, etc. The possible development of the diagnostic techniques is discussed.
