摘要
The decision to proceed with breast reconstruction following mastectomy for breast cancer is a complex one. In general, we found that patientrelated factors such as increased age, nonwhite ethnic background, low income and nonurban location of residence, and cancer-related factors such as advanced stage and anticipated need for radiation therapy are associated with decreased rates of breast reconstruction.12,13-27 Furthermore, modifiable barriers to breast reconstruction in Canada include knowledge gaps and misperceptions held by referring physicians and patients.40 Addressing these gaps in knowledge may increase the rate of breast reconstruction in Canada. © 2011 Canadian Medical Association or its licensors.
