Synthesis and structual characterization of complexes [Cd(hca)2(H2O)3]•2H2O and [Cu(hca)2(phen)]

Complex 1 [Cd(hca)(2)(H2O)(3)] was obtained by the reaction of CdCl2 center dot 2H(2)O,NaOH and 4-hydroxycinnamic acid(Hhca) and complex 2 [Cu(hca)(2)(phen)] was obtained by the reaction of Cu(Ac)(2)center dot H2O, 4-hydroxycinnamic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline. The crystal structure reveals that complex 1 is of orthorhombic, space group Pbcn with a=2.629 7(4) nm, b=1.095 76(17) nm, c=0.732 16(11) nm, V=2.109 7(6) nm(3), Z=4, mu= 1.092 mm(-1), D-c= 1.665 Mg . m(-3), F(000)=1 072 and the complex 2 is of monoclinic, space group C2/c with a=2.420 5(5) nm, b=1.006 1(2) nm, c=0.7322(11) nm, beta=109.55 degrees, V=2.5308(9) nm(3), Z=4, mu=0.912 mm(-1), D-c= 1.496 Mg . m(-3), F(000)= 1172. Both complexes are mononuclear but hydrogen bonds enrich the structural construction. By the linkage of hydrogen bonds, complex 1 shows a 3D supramolecular network and complex 2 shows a 2D supramolecular network.
