Risk of nutrition female students developing eating disorders

Eating disorders (ED) are constant disturbances in diet or eating behaviour. Food consumption or absorption are altered as a consequence of ED, compromising physical health and / or psychosocial functioning. Anorexia Nervosa (AN) and Bulimia Nervosa (BN) are among the ED with more incidence, and Eating Compulsion Disorder ( ECD) is also worth mentioning. Young women inserted in a socio-cultural environment that values a skinny body have a higher chance of developing an ED, as the literature about AN and BN shows. A risk analysis of developing ED was performed in a group of nutrition female students of a university located in Rio Grande do Sul as the main objective of this study. The Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) and the Questionnaire on Eating and Weight Patterns Revised (QEWP R) were applied. The former to evaluate risky eating behaviours, and the last to investigate risky behaviour for developing ECD. These questionnaires were applied to the researched group using the Google Forms platform. The number of participants were 22 women with average age of 23,73 +/- 5,18 years. The sample of students showed that there is 36,4% (n=8) of risk for AN and BN. Linked with offsetting practices, there is also a risk of 4,5% (n=1) for ECD. The conclusion is that there is a risk of developing ED among the students. There is an statistically significant direct relationship (p=0,010) between the self-consumption of food within two hours and the age average of 20,50 +/- 1,0 years. The conclusion is there is risk of developing ED among the sample, also the physical shape and weight have a bad influence in the way that the students evaluate themselves.
