摘要
With the ever increasing demand for electric power, electricity suppliers face the challenge of transmitting and distributing more and more power to load centers. However, the power distribution is limited by the ratings of power lines. Construction of new lines may solve this problem but it is not economically and socially preferred option. The limit of the maximum current a line can transmit is conservatively decided based on a standard static rating that disregards the environmental conditions. In reality, the ampacity of a line changes dynamically in response to the ambient conditions and prevailing wind. In this paper a model to calculate the dynamic ampacity effectively is developed. The wind speed and ambient temperature measurements taken at different sampling rates were used to determine the optimum sampling rate required to determine the ampacity with reasonable error.
