The author tries to explain the meaning of Deleuze's notion of difference and to better understand the role it plays in his thinking, doing so by consulting Deleuze's interpretation of Spinoza's notion of essence, of Bergson's notion of duration, and of Proust's description of the souvenir involontaire.
