Sclerotherapy has been an established treatment for varicose veins for many years. Previously reduced to an accessory method for telangectasia, this method has benefited from the use of sclerosing foam which can be applied to incontinent saphenous trunks. Ultrasound guiding improves the safety and the efficacy of the procedure. Ambulatory treatment is possible which explains the current popularity of the technique among angiologists in selected indications. Standardisation of the technique and of the sclerosing foam used should enable clinical trials to be performed to determine the place of this method in the already available therapeutic arsenal.
