摘要
This article presents the results of three studies which had for purpose the construction and validation of a new measure of motivation toward volunteerism, namely the "Echelle de motivation envers l'action benevole (EMAB)". The EMAB is composed of eight subscales assessing the following types of motivation : Altruistic Intrinsic Motivation, Altruistic Integrated Regulation, Altruistic Identified Regulation, Altruistic Introjected Regulation, Egoistic Intrinsic Motivation (associated with the pleasure of acquiring knowledge), Egoistic Identified Regulation, Egoistic External Regulation (associated with gaining work-related experience and social prestige), and Amotivation. Overall, results reveal that the EMAB displays adequate levels of internal consistency as well as satisfying indices of temporal stability, Results of a confirmatory factor analysis also confirm the 8-factor structure of the EMAB. In addition, the construct validity of the EMAB's subscales is supported in relation with variables pertaining to the dimensions of self-determination. altruism and egoism, as well as with variables related to the quality of one's volunteer implication. It thus appears that the EMAB is ready to be used in volunteerism research. To this effect, we propose future directions pertaining to both theoretical and applied research.
