Multicausal explanation in the History classroom: Three cases of educational guidance

This research work studied multi-causal explanations of a specific historical event given by Secondary School teachers during a short process of educational guidance. A total of nine different classes were recorded and analysed. In the initial sessions, all the teachers provided expository explanations in which historical events were presented as a complex network of causes and consequences in relative order. However, few actions were developed to facilitate students comprehension of causal relations. Based on these results, some of the reasons that may explain the difficulties encountered are discussed.
