摘要
The authors of this paper has set an working group on bioethics whose purpose is to examine the ethical and social implication associated with the introduction of genetically modified technology. In this preliminary report our aim is to balance the benefits of a technology like genetic modification with its potential harms and disadvantages, Among the benefits, we recognize the fact that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) will raise agricultural productivity, assist the development of a more nutritious food and contribute to the increase of food security in the developing countries. On the other hand, we cannot disregard the fact that GMOs might be a threat to human health and/or environment and its introduction may raise the profits of private companies, whilst at the same time depriving poorer producers of the same access to markets and to the new varieties of seeds. At the end, we draw some recommendation for the potential use of GMOs in our country.
