The use of the anomalous dependence of the gradient of the normal component of the residual magnetization field to monitor the mechanical properties of articles with protective nonmetal coatings

A pulsed magnetic method of monitoring the mechanical properties of ferromagnetic articles with protective lacquer and other nonmetal coatings is described. The method involves choosing the amplitude of the magnetizing pulses on the falling section of the graph of the gradient of the residual magnetization field against the amplitude of these pulses at the point where the curves plotted without a coating and for its maximum possible thickness intersect. A method for automatically choosing the optimum amplitude when monitoring thick articles with protective nonmetal coatings is considered.
