This article discusses the diagnostic issues involved in the evaluation of a woman who presents with premenstrual symptoms. Premenstrual symptoms may present as mild symptoms, severe symptoms (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), as the exacerbation of the symptoms of an ongoing psychiatric and medical disorders. The evaluation of a woman with premenstrual symptoms involves symptom charting and careful clinical psychiatric and medical evaluation.
