摘要
Thermal degradation mechanisms of IM7/BMI5260 have been characterized using the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A new technique based on differential charging concepts was developed to separately investigate the effect of aging on fiber and resin. In addition, an in-situ oxidation chamber was constructed to simulate the oxygen reaction to the composite in a controlled environment. The results show that degradation of the IM7/BMI5260 composites is caused by the formation of the carbonyl due to the short term oxidation and then followed by the formation of CO2 in the resin during the long term oxidation.
