摘要
The risk of forest fires is one of the main environmental, social, and economic problems facing the countries of the Mediterranean basin, in particular Algeria, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, and France. For several decades, thousands of hectares in northern Algeria have been highly vulnerable and vulnerable to this scourge. In northwestern Algeria, the decline in rainfall is particularly pronounced in the mid-1970s. This rainfall decreases by around 50%. This long and regular dryness has destroyed more than 37,000 ha/year of the vulnerable forest. The aim of this study is to assess the fire risk of forest by a combination of a classical climatic analysis approach of drought using SPI (Standardized Precipitation Index) and remote sensing data (NDVI: normalized difference vegetation index). The NDVI is evaluated through Google Earth Engine Web GIS based software that mainly uses Modis images that cover the time span from 2006 to 2019. Both of these data confirm, the spatial variation of drought along the period of study, and a substantial drought effect in the region; this coincides with the outbreak of forest fires.
